How alcohol can make you gain weight?

Calories are the units of energy contained in the food and drink we consume. Calories are either burned to produce energy or, if excess to requirements, stored as fat.  They can transform into usable energy for life’s activities, from breathing to running marathons.  They are mostly found in  macronutrients  and examples are carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Carbs and protein. In carbohydrate you can find  4cals per gram, in fats 9cals per gram. We can also find fiber in carbs and fibers are categorized into two : Soluble and insoluble.

Alcohol carries 7cals per gram, but these are considered empty calories, because the body gets (literally) zero nutritional value from this energy. So since they don’t help in any way they’ll just be stored as fats.

Alcohol makes your body produce more estrogen promotes fat storage and lowers your testosterone levels which may lead to infertility, decrease in sexual function and desire, erectile dysfunction (ED), hair loss, decreased muscle mass, and osteoporosis in males and  hot flashes, irritability, loss of sexual desire, sleep disturbances, loss of muscle mass, and decreased bone density (osteoporosis) in women.

Sometimes we might not know the damage caused but fall in love with the feeling.

95% of alcohol drinkers have big belly, which is because alcohol increases cortisol and cortisol is a hormone that increases the fat in the belly.

We notice that most alcohol drinkers are lazy and tired, that is because alcohol dehydrates the body, leaving the body with little water than required which is dangerous to health.  Whenever there’s alcohol in the body, it’s broken down into acetate (basically vinegar), which the body will burn before any other calorie you’ve consumed or stored, including fat or even sugar.

The body has a set number of calories needed to maintain your weight if that number is more than reuired in your system the more likely they would be stored as fats. It also causes you to lose minerals that are important for fat metabolism like magnesium, potassium, calcium & zinc.

It can be a depressant because it decreases your motivation, not allowing you carry out tasks, maybe work in the office or  workout if you’re trying to lose weight.

alcohol is converted into acetate, which becomes your body’s main source of energy that could be used to burn fats, so instead of using it to burn fat it is used for nothing which makes the alcohol get stored as fat, which also affects the body’s fat burning abilities,

Too much alcohol stops the body from burning fat as energy just as skipping meals or not getting enough rest does. It’ll be preferable if you reduced the alcohol intake and more water.
